I've audited +10 landing pages yesterday. Here're the most common mistakes I see in literally every landing page
Hi there!
Recently, I've started doing audits for landing pages to improve conversion for fellow founders. The day before yesterday I dropped a post asking people to show me their landing page and I'll audit it for them and give actionable tips for free because I'm trying to build a decent portfolio. I honestly couldn't keep up with the requests, I got so many and I think I messed too of them (sorry for those who I didn't audit their pages).
So, this time instead of falling for the same trap, I'll be doing something quite different
I'll share the most common mistakes, and how to fix them, and also, if you want you can drop your landing page below and I'll give you exactly 3 tips to personalized for yours (if I can)
So, here they are, the 5 most common mistakes I've seen across SaaS landing pages that kill conversion:
- Too many external links: the landing page is the front of your website, its goal is to make the visitor scroll down to reach the main CTA and actually click, not navigate around your website and forgetting why they even landed in it. Fix: remove any links that lead to other pages entirely (except the CTA, and the legal pages in the footer)
- Trying to sell to everyone: There's a test in copywriting called the mirror test, where you basically replace your logo by a competitor logo and ask if it makes sense, and if it does it means your landing page is bad, and not yours. To avoid that, you need have a strong selling point, and around its benefit write your landing page.
- Feature-led instead of benefit-driven: Visitors don't want to learn about your product, they want to know why they should pay for it. If they don't see the benefit from it immediately, they won't even bother reading your whole landing page and flop. Replace any feature explanation with a corresponding benefit users get from it
- Weak CTA: Lets be realistic, "Get Started" doesn't mean anything, it has to many variables.. get started with what? where? when? it's just too vague. Always write a benefit-driven CTA that touches to emotional state of your visitor, something like "Improve my conversions" directly gives the benefit, and states the emotional state where visitors want to have more sales. This makes them feel seen.
- No social proof: This is the most common one, I found it in literally 9 out of 10 landing pages. I know it can be hard at first to have real testimonials for your service, but a simple trick you can use is to ask friends or connections for exchanged testimonials and each of your put the other's testimonial with a link to it in your landing page. This increases credibility significantly, and answers the question that sits barrier between free user and paid one "why should I trust you?"
This is what I found over the few landing pages I've audited so far.
If you want a more tailored tips, drop your landing page and I'll give you few tips to improve your conversion.
