FMC in CR who is badass and has a spine

Okay, so I feel like I read a lot of CR books where the FMC’s are down on their luck and need the MMC to help them, very much a they’ve always been independent and don’t know how to ask for help and the MMC steps up without being asked to. Or the power dynamic is such that MMC is the FMC’s boss. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy them.

But what I’m looking for right now is a book where FMC and MMC are on equal footing, neither is the other’s boss or richer or whatever. I want a badass FMC who has her shit together, doesn’t become a melted puddle of goo when she locks eyes with the MMC, and doesn’t easily forgive if he makes her mad.

MMC shouldn’t undermine her in front of others and believed in her badassery, has her back quietly without being incredibly overprotective and wanting to wrap the fmc in bubble wrap.

Bonus points if the FMC can fight or is in a male dominated hands on profession, like a mechanic or contractor.

No HR/Fantasy/Paranormal. Mostly just CR, open to Mafia but I feel like the mafia fmcs are always just young, virginal, and just so dependent on the MMCs. Would be v happy to be proven wrong though. Pls and ty 💛
