Advice on c section vs induction of labor at 38 weeks please
Just wondering if anyone else has gone through this or is going through this at the moment.
I found out I have GD at 30 weeks and it was always well controlled with diet only. Baby girl was always measuring perfectly on track up to 34 weeks.
I went for my first appointment at the hospital where I will deliver at 36 weeks where they asked me to keep a daily log on my sugar levels. At 37 weeks they did an ultrasound and checked my sugar levels for the previous week.
Out of nowhere they told me my fasting sugars were high and put me on metformin. Levels were only slightly above guidelines and told me I will need early induction at 38 weeks. They also told me baby was measuring 3.6kg already and belly was measuring 2 weeks ahead of head and legs. They told me I have to decide how badly I want a vaginal birth as there is the risk of should dystocia but its my decision and they refused to provide any guidance further than that.
I was originally assigned a consultant doctor to oversee my care but last two visits was seen by other doctors who work under his department. They refused to pass on my request to speak with him directly and I have asked for this no less than 6 times.
I spoke to my own doctor who has been seeing me at her clinic during the rest of my pregnancy. She told me that given I have a bishop score of zero at the moment and baby’s head is still high, coupled with the small but present risk of shoulder dystocia, it would be the safest option to just book an elective c section.
I am devastated. A C section birth experience is not what I pictured or wanted at all and I am also not the fittest person so worry very much about recovery from major abdominal surgery. If I opt for elective c section and baby comes out smaller than estimated I dont think I will get over it.
Maybe anyone has been through a similar decision process and birth and can offer some personal experience on this.
Thank you
