Community Discussion : Riftbound's approach to Rules
Hi everyone,
With the latest rules update to Legion, Jax, Assault, and Buff, I would like the community to have a serious discussion about Riot's approach to rules update in TCGs :
-
The Legion update : the fact that this update only changes the counting of "played" cards towards Legion and NOT towards cards like ravenbloom student or Diana NLH is mind-boggling to me. This breaks internal consistencies every TCG needs.
Riot needs to take a hard stance on the definition of what "playing a card needs" rather than creating more corner cases changing it's definition. -
Jax change : First Jax and Aphelios didn't need the nerf. Second pretty sure that with the current rules Angle Shot would allow you to equip an already equiped gear to that same unit. But Somehow Jax legend can't ?
-
Sett and Hirana interaction. This and Overzealous Fan is a glaring example that Riot needs to have a clear template between costs and effect
either costs need to be paid at the resolution of the trigger to have the effect
or costs need to be paid when meeting the condition to put a reflexive tigger on the chain (similar to Pyke's Sig)
If you want your game to juggle between the 2, you need a clear templating in wording text so that your average player can easily navigate the rules
I've played a huge amount of TCGs : YGO, MTG, FAB, CFV, Battle Spirits
Out of every TCG I've played, RB has by far the highest rule opacity I've ever seen.
And at this point, with set 3, this is not a "New Game Syndrome", your rules and mechanics should have been ironed out by now.
The other explanation, that somehow seems even worse to me, is that Riot is using rules changes as a way to "buff" or "nerf" archetype à la video game patches : which is wholely incompatible with TCGs from my experience.
With that said, what does everyone think of the way Riot handles rules update, the legibility of their rulings, and what Riot Should do to streamline their rulings.
Thanks in advance ^^
