H1 A Level German or B1 German

A Levels :snoo:

Hi people,

I'm out of NS doing and working as an MOE relief teacher while waiting for uni. Currently holding IB diploma and a serial exam lover (I'll let you know why if you ask). Anyways, during IB (2022-23) I self learnt German and passed ny A1 and A2 German with 90/100 and 89/100 respectively but struggled to continue with B1 so I hired a private tutor who teaches German part time at NUS. However, I'm barely progressing due to the lack of motivation and difficulty in finding people to practice German with (and after 2 years I'm only barely half done with B1) and my lessons are super irregular because I have no clear goal in mind. But I'm interested to learn German as I do sing classical German opera works and also want to do an exchange in Vienna during uni.

Recently I chanced upon the A Level application opening and saw the sample outline for H1 German and found it rather similar to B1 and the exam fees are cheaper at $120 instead of $378 for B1 at Goethe Institut. Targeting to take either exam (A level German as private candidate or B1 at Goethe Institut) this year November. Anyone who's taken A level H1 German can give any advice and let me know what level in cefr is it equivalent to? And which should I go for? It's not very urgent but I hope to upskill my German and be motivated to speed up learning again:) Also if you need a Sprachpartner please reach out with a DM!

Context: Currently just trying to desperately upskill myself because I enjoy learning new stuff and challenging myself, so I keep spending money registering myself for exams or courses or lessons (it's taking a bit of a financial toll too but I'm happy learning more) I also never learnt German in school before but have enough vocab to awkwardly hold a conversation with German tourists but not understand everything if I come across them (had a few great convos on the mrt before)

BTW I'm still actively revising on duolingo and DW learn German, just stopped lessons since last December

Vielen Dank!
