It started off as any other day. Except it wasn't.

I had been this company for just under a year now, and managed to successfully avoid most of the after work events the company had set for the last few months.

But tonight was the annual company gala - quite possibly the most looked towards event of the year. The office was alive for those in attendance, constant chatter about how everyone was looking forward to maxing out the tabs and getting drunk, while others seemed more excited to mingle.

I, however, had plans to skip just like any other event. Although, this time, I was caught by my friend just as I was about to leave the office. "Oh no, you don't." She grabbed my arm, guiding me in the opposite direction where I usually walked to catch my train home. "You are staying this time, Bella. Who knows, maybe you'll find a man?" She entertained the idea but I didn't want to amuse her, trying to pull my arm off but she insisted I stay for at least two rounds of drinks.

And so I went.

I didn't dress up much - just staying in my work clothes which was a pair of jeans and a blouse that just about hinted at my curves underneath. Not much the drinker, I nursed my coke in my hand - speaking with my friends in the corner when I looked up, and my eyes caught yours across the room.
