(AUS) New Laptop to replace 12 year old Toshiba Kirabook

Laptop Request -Others

Hello,

I bought a Toshiba Kirabook many years ago, and have not found the need to replace it until recently. I would like to find a laptop that is similarly light and compact. See below:

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase:
    • 2,000 AUD, Australia.
  • Are you open to refurbs/used?
    • Yes in fact this may be preferable, especially if I can fix up parts over time.
    • I can afford to buy a good laptop, but would realistically prefer not to spend too much.
    • I don't want to have to replace my new laptop within the next five years - something that's built to last would be ideal.
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
    • In order of preference:
      1. Lightweight/easy to carry.
      2. Smooth performance (doesn't overheat all the time)
      3. Can run HD movies (a CD reader would be incredible but conscious most laptops don't have those anymore).
      4. Battery life - so long as it's like 2-3 hours that should be fine
    • I don't need anything too heavy duty re: flashy graphics etc.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you?
    • Essential! I really appreciate how light my Toshiba is to carry. I tend to overstuff my handbag so would love a laptop that is similarly light.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
    • N/A, though guessing that smaller = lighter.
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
    • Word processing
    • Watching TV/movies (HDMI cable connected to TV screen)
    • Gaming if it has the capacity (My steam deck is now my main gaming console).
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
    • It could play Dota 2 and Fallout New Vegas that would be fantastic.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
    • My needs are more basic here. A reliable keyboard is obviously useful as I want to use it to type.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
    • I've had a wonderful, lightweight, trusty laptop for many years, but it's just getting so old and makes it difficult to watch any films. So something new that could serve the same functions would be incredible. Nothing too heavy!!!!

Thank you all xoxoxo
