Our culture glorifies abused mothers.
In our culture, women who endure abuse and disrespect are often glorified as “naik” or virtuous. Over time, even the women themselves start believing that suffering silently is morally good.
Zeba in Kafeel sees this in herself. Her endurance of the abuse feels like a duty and a noble sacrifice to her. But the psychological impact is profound on the children.
I recently came across an excellent podcast by psychologist Shanzay Khan analyzing parenting in Kafeel, Parwarish, and Zindagi Gulzar Hai.
If you’re interested in a psychological analysis of parenting in these dramas, do give it a watch.
