Husband is sad (not mad) when I correct him

He gets sad when I correct him on anything simple he doesn’t get angry no but if I make a correction simply as saying can you do this another way or can you change this he gets sad and all emotional. He says it’s because “all he wants to do is make me happy and do things right.” In addition to that, I asked him why he gets sad too and he says nobody ever took the time to speak to him when he was younger all they did was yell at him and hit him..what can I do? I am trying to be more patient and not point stuff out. Any advice helps thank you!
