My friend is generally disturbed by The Outlast Trials. How can I make it less scary?

This sounds like a nonissue; however, I bought the game for him, and I can't refund it. He likes the gameplay; however, he calls it "disturbing" because of how realistic the gore and blood are, which, yeah, I understand, as it is a horror game. I'm not going to force him to play a game. However, I wonder, is there a way to make the game less "disturbing"? I have asked him if changing the graphics could make it less scary, but is that the only way?
