Cat refuses Flagyl no matter what I try (liquid + food + syringe) – I’m stuck

Medical Questions

My cat was prescribed Flagyl (0.5 mL, twice a day, every 12 hours), and I genuinely cannot get this medication into her.

For context: she’s had lifelong GI issues. Her stools are usually very soft/pudding-like. Before her current diet, she had straight-up diarrhea.

Right now she’s on:

Hill’s Prescription Diet Biome (dry, her main food)

~1.5 oz Hill’s Sensitive Skin & Stomach pate (mixed with water into a slurry, otherwise she won’t eat it)

We went to the vet on Friday because she hadn’t had a bowel movement in about 2 days. She finally went Saturday morning after ~55 hours, but it was still very mushy like usual. That’s when she was prescribed Flagyl.

Since then, I’ve tried EVERYTHING I can think of and everything the vet suggested:

Burrito wrapping + oral syringe (from the vet)

Putting it on her paw so she’ll lick it

Mixing it into wet food

Mixing it into Tiki Cat/Tiki Treat (creamy treat)

Hand-feeding / sitting with her

Offering it warm, room temp, and cold

Pill pockets (she refuses those entirely, with or without meds)

If it’s in food, she refuses to eat and walks away like I’ve personally betrayed her. If I try the syringe, she fights hard and spits, and I’m not confident she’s getting the full dose (if any).

This morning (Sunday ~9 AM) we attempted a dose and I think she may have gotten a tiny amount, but definitely not the full 0.5 mL.

My next thought is trying when she’s very sleepy, but the timing is tricky since it has to be every 12 hours.

I also cannot get this medication compounded into another flavor right now.

At this point:

She’s not getting proper doses

Every attempt is stressful for both of us

I feel like I’m running out of options

I’ve heard Flagyl tastes extremely bitter, so I’m wondering if that’s why she’s rejecting literally everything.

Has anyone dealt with this level of refusal with liquid Flagyl specifically? Are there any techniques that actually work for cats like this, or should I be calling the vet and asking for a completely different form (like pills or another medication)?

I just want her to actually get the medication without turning this into a twice-daily battle.

Any help is appreciated
