Physical reaction first?
Does anyone else experience their social anxiety as a physical reaction first? I recently went to a casual event at a neighborhood café and once I arrived, my body tensed up and I started sweating so hard that someone asked me if it rained while I was walking there. I didn't really have any negative self-talk or thought spirals until that point (I actually talked positively to myself about it), but once I was in that situation it was like my fight or flight system instantly went on full force and then I felt so self-aware and awkward that I wanted to just leave again.
This also happens whenever I think about asking someone to hang out with me or breaking the ice with an acquaintance. I've been in this city for about 2 years now and haven't made a single friend. I only really function when there's like a structured context - for example giving a speech in front of people or training new workers on the job is absolutely no issue for me. But just being around strangers without a goal or trying to connect with people? My body says: "Better not lol"
