Questions from a recent visitor

Travel

Hej đź‘‹!

I recently visited Denmark and had the opportunity to explore Copenhagen and Helsingør. I have previously visited myself for business and brought the whole family to explore your lovely country. All in all, very lovely and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! My wife and I have some questions that we are curious whether some locals could provide some insight.

1 - Do locals actually pay for transit passes? We purchased the Copenhagen Card (very handy!) and train tickets when we made a day trip out to Sweden, but the only time we were checked was on the metro inbound from the airport to city center. Otherwise, it seemed that no one cared on trains, metros, water taxis -- never checked once. Is it an unspoken "don't ask don't tell" kind of situation? Do you locals actually pay for transit passes?

2 - How often does bike theft happen?. We noticed that bikes and gear were rarely secured. My assumption then is that theft is rare? Or are bikes very cheap to procure?

3 - What are your thoughts on general presence of litter? One thing that surprised my wife is the amount of litter (especially cigarette butts). I noted that this is a major city center and my wife said that she felt both Tokyo and Taipei were much cleaner despite being quite dense. Especially Taipei given the lack of public bins. How do Danes feel about this? Have there been efforts to curb this?

4 - How do you deal with the cost of food? By far the most disproportionate expense compared to our other travels was the food. It is quite expensive! The tradeoff I would say is that portions are generous and the food was all very fresh and delicious. But how do locals deal with the cost of food? How often do you eat out versus eating in? What are some more cost effective staples for locals (aside from pølser (still quite pricey))?

5 - Where do you use the restroom when out and about? In Taipei and Tokyo, it was easy to find restrooms in metro and train stations. This was not the case in Copenhagen and even when we ventured into Lund and Malmo -- it was difficult to find public restrooms. If you are out and about (especially with kids), what do you do about restrooms?

Tak! I'm looking forward to visiting again and very curious about these!
