6 month old screams in anger
Backstory: I previously did not want kids so I have never paid much attention to how children behave and I have never spent much time around kids. Now I am a FTM of a 6 month old boy. When I found out I was having a boy I was not disappointed but I was scared. There are many toxic men in both my family and his father’s family. I am so scared of raising a toxic man.
Concern: My six month old screams out of frustration and can get pretty angry at times. I acknowledge that he can get a little crazy but I still feel like he is overall a pretty easy baby. We still have fun and laugh together. However, my family-in-law often acts like he is a bad baby. They are a big family with many children and they make comments that make me feel like something is wrong with him. They tell me he is a crybaby and is always mad. I don’t know if they are just getting to me but I am starting to wonder if there really is something wrong with him.
Behavior: Is it normal for him to scream when he gets frustrated with a toy or when he is tired and I try to lay him in his crib? I can usually console him within a minute or two max. He sometimes gets angry at his board books and screams bloody murder. I assume it’s because they are heavy for him and he struggles to flip the pages. I usually let him try to figure it out unless he becomes too upset then I switch it out for another toy. Or if he needs a diaper change when he is tired he will cry and scream. I try to sing him a song to calm him down. If it doesn’t work I will do deep breathing to try to show him how to calm down.
Question: Is this normal behavior? If so, how would you respond to it? If not, what should I do to help him?
