Why are USB-C ports becoming more profound, than USB-A?

General question

I am not the biggest fan of USB-C ports (both sockets and plugs). I find that they break more easily than USB-A. I find them only slightly better than Micro USBs.

Why is everything connected to USB-C ports nowadays though?

Why couldn't have USB-A be used to build docking stations, charging cables, and so on?

If I am trying to buy a docking station, I get more and newer ranges that are connected to USB-C.

If you based in the EU or UK, laptops charging cables are also connected to USB-C, and these cables break easily. The length of the cable isn't as long as they used to be.

I understand that they came from a mandate to reduce waste, but I feel like I've thrown more USB-C cables than any other ones because broke off after a year or two.
