How are MBA classes graded?
I’ve read a lot of posts about what’s important to focus on during your MBA, how to make the most of the experience, and what actually matters for success. Sorry if this has been asked before, but one thing I’m still confused about is grading and academics.
I’ve been out of undergrad for almost 10 years, so going back to school, especially for an MBA, feels like a very different environment, and I’m not really sure what to expect academically.
How much should I realistically be focusing on academics/GPA during an MBA? I know networking, recruiting, clubs, and social life are all big parts of the experience too, so I’m trying to understand where academics fit into the bigger picture.
A few things I’m specifically wondering:
- How does grading usually work in MBA programs?
- Are there exams/midterms, or is it more project/presentation based?
- I’ve heard there are a lot of group assignments; how are those graded, and how much of it is individual vs. team-based?
I also have a fellowship, so maintaining my GPA is important for me, which is part of why I’m asking. I’m also someone who won’t be ok not doing well academically, but I want to make sure I don’t spend too much time studying IF I should be focusing on other aspects.
If it helps, I’m currently planning to attend Cornell Johnson (though I haven’t officially accepted yet). I’m also planning to take pre-MBA courses, so I’m more prepared.
