Small insults early in the dating process
I (27F) have been on 6 dates with a guy (34M) who I met on an app. Both looking for long term. There are a couple things he’s said before that I’m not sure how I feel about and can’t tell if he really likes me. After the first 2 dates we continued to text and I asked him if he wanted to go on a third date and he said yes but he couldn’t tell at all how I felt so far so was going to gauge the vibe over text and let me initiate. On the third date he told me that I’m hard to read and that after the first and second date he had no idea how they went. On the 4th date we went to a trail that was more secluded and he texted me after that I confused him because he was trying to read my body language for initiating more intimacy but that I seemed closed off. He asked how I like to give/receive intimacy because he didn’t want to make me uncomfortable, this part I appreciated and thought was nice. He also commented that when I kiss him at the end of dates it’s very brief.
We haven’t had sex yet but we’ve discussed it and it will probably happen soon within the next couple dates. On the last date I went over to his place and we made out and when I pulled back I said “ok” in a “that was nice” way and he responded “and this is why I said you’re hard to read”. To me these feel like mild insults, they’re definitely not compliments. But he keeps engaging with me through texts and going on dates with me so I’m not sure how to feel. I’m not sure if he really actually likes me and haven’t really encountered this before.
