Have any policy SEOs/G7s transitioned sideways/on promotion into a DDaT role? How has it gone? Any advice?

I've been in policy my entire civil service career and am currently an SEO. I am considering a career change into a different profession - ideally one that has more obvious opportunities outside of the CS as well. The reason is primarily that I feel policy doesn't have the kinds of transferrable skills that are relevant or helpful in the private sector, so it feels a little like my only option at the moment would be to always stay in the CS. I'm reasonably numerate (though degree etc was in humanities) and considering areas like digital/data science etc. But given the various opportunities within the CS, it seems smart to try to switch within it first, into a DDaT profession, before going for private sector roles. I'm in my early 30s, just for context.

Just curious as to whether anyone has done this, what they recommend, and what their path was. Thanks so much.
