Lack of LPN to RN bridging seats at UFV.
Hello just wanted to hop on her to discuss the massive lack of seats for LPN to RN bridging at UFV. They received over 100 qualified applicants for only 24 seats.
I’m writing an email to raise concern. This is what I have so far.
Hello,
I am writing to raise concern with the significant lack of LPN-to-BSN bridging seats available at UFV.
It is my understanding that the most recent application cycle (September 2026) received over 100 qualified applicants competing for just 24 available seats. In a province desperate for Registered Nurses, turning away 75% of experienced, local applicants is a significant systemic failure. Especially considering British Columbia is currently facing a critical RN shortage, yet the educational infrastructure at UFV does not reflect the urgency of this crisis.
Other institutions are already demonstrating that expansion is possible through proactive leadership. Vancouver Community College (VCC) successfully secured provincial funding to double their intake this year, accommodating 48 students total (24 seats in April 2026 and 24 in August 2026). There is no reason UFV should not be pursuing and receiving the same level of support to serve the Fraser Health region.
Experienced LPNs are the most immediate and sustainable solution to the RN shortage. We do not need more high cost recruitment of internationally trained nurses; we need UFV to provide the educational capacity for the qualified nurses who are already here, experienced and are already working the frontlines.
My question to you: When does UFV plan to secure the funding necessary to match the 48-seat model and implement a second annual intake we so desperately need?
I look forward to a direct response regarding this urgent matter.
