I don't think people understand how being unemployed breaks a person

I'm 26 years old and honestly, I feel like I'm at my wit's end. I've been unemployed since last July. I have a degree in English Literature and I've sent out hundreds of applications with no results. I've applied for anything and everything, but even shops and cafes reject me. The job market is so tough, and I feel like it's only getting tougher. It's so draining to put all your energy into applying just to either get no response or face constant rejections.

Being unemployed is the most suffocating thing. You can't do anything because you have no money, and you just watch your savings disappear before your eyes. You can't buy the video game you were waiting for, or even go out for a drink with a friend. All you do is sit all day scrolling through job sites, and by the end of the day, you're too exhausted to even have the energy for any of the hobbies that used to make you happy.

And the worst part is the external stuff. My family asks me every day, "So, any news?", and I can feel the judgment in their eyes. Then I make the mistake of opening Instagram and seeing everyone my age getting promotions or traveling, and it makes me feel like a complete failure.

Being unemployed is a real nightmare.
