How do people treat you?

Rant/Rave

I thought getting a diagnosis would make people more understanding but instead folks who have “educated” themselves on narcolepsy have taken upon themselves to make sure I do whatever Facebook told them to…

I literally have people who feel comfortable enough to hit me in order to wake me up if they feel like I’m not sleeping in the right place or at the right time for too long… I hide my naps at this point and some people will take my caffeine away bc someone told them it wasn’t good for narcolepsy. Theres this one lady who will literally time my naps and wake me up at exactly 20 minutes.

And don’t get me wrong, I know that short naps are important and not totally relying on caffeine is good but I will literally be fighting sleep and there will be people who will start hitting me and shouting in my ear to stay awake. If I have to stay up one night for some reason, I get lectured on how I’m ”making the narcolepsy worse.” And if I take a break from driving bc I’m tired, i somehow always should’ve have been able to push through but then I’m reckless and selfish when I finally do decide to drive tired.

Does anyone else get treated this way sometimes? How do you deal with it? Some of these folks are literally family members…
