Coco and the enabler ecosystem that surrounded her, which harmed actual survivors

I want to talk about one of the most frustrating aspects of the enabler ecosystem in this case: the platforms and organizations that were explicitly warned about Coco by real survivors, but chose to protect their star speaker instead.

We know for a fact that the Safe House Project was contacted multiple times both before and after Coco's arrest. When actual survivors saw the glaring red flags and reached out to bring attention to the matter, they were met with absolute resistance. Survivors have spoken out about feeling completely gaslit by the organization, stating that Safe House actively tried to diminish the harm Coco was causing. Yes, they eventually issued a statement acknowledging the damage she did to survivors (finally, and good for them), but only after it became a PR nightmare. Prior to that, they were perfectly fine ignoring the voices of real victims to prop up a fraud.

But it wasn't just them. Dahlia’s Hope had to remove Coco from their program, and we’ve heard from multiple other survivors who have come forward to say that Coco made them incredibly uncomfortable or actively mistreated and was racist towards them. She was stepping on and belittling the exact vulnerable people she claimed to be advocating for and it’s just so frustrating!

Then you have massive organizations like the Polaris Project and The Joyful Heart Foundation, who inexplicably still follow her on social media. It is genuinely baffling that an organization of that size, dedicated to this specific cause, hasn't bothered to hit the unfollow button on one of the most notorious fakes in the industry.

It makes me wonder where we draw the line between these organizations being gullible and them being actively complicit. When an advocacy group ignores, gaslights, and diminishes real victims just because someone else has a more sensational, camera-ready story, how do they ever rebuild trust with the community?
