how can i track or get information abt someone without their knowledge

abt a month ago i loan money to a guy thinking that he had no bad intentions but it seems that ive been scammed my point is that the amount is not small and i need a way to get to him by holding something on him or another way because legaly there is nothing i can do and im not planning on harming anyone just holding someone accountable
