ILR timing vs redundancy risk (UK Skilled Worker) – need advice
Hi everyone,
I’m in a bit of a stressful situation and would really appreciate any advice from people who’ve been through something similar.
I’m currently on a Skilled Worker visa in the UK and approaching ILR eligibility later this year. My employer (large public sector organisation) is going through restructuring, and my role has been flagged as “at risk.”
They’ve said that formal redundancy notices are planned for late summer, but the timeline has already slipped multiple times and may slip again. Right now, I’m still employed and going through a redeployment process internally. No formal notice has been issued yet.
My main concern is timing my ILR application. From what I understand, I need an employer letter confirming that I’m still employed and expected to continue working.
My questions are:
- Has anyone successfully applied for ILR while in a redeployment process?
- Would employers usually still provide the required letter in this situation?
- If I apply before any formal redundancy notice is issued, does that generally “protect” the application even if redundancy happens later? I plan to pay for priority processing times.
- Is there any risk that the Home Office could refuse based on the uncertainty of my role?
I’m trying to plan this carefully because my immigration status depends on it, and the uncertainty is honestly quite overwhelming.
Any insights or experiences would really help. Thanks so much.
