House Guard 3 question

House Guard 3 states "when you cause an attack to miss"

What are the limits of what this counts as, would being engaged with someone where the difficulty made the attack miss count as you causing it to miss?

I'm trying to figure out all the ways this can be triggered and other then being cover I wasn't sure what else would count.

Any advice is appreciated.
