How to retain information from media that I read & watch?

Anytime I read a book or watch a show I can’t retain any information. I’m lucky if I even remember the title I’ve rewatched and re read some things 5+ times and I can only actively recall information as I’m actively reading and watching the series. If I try to recall information about it any other time I can’t remember anything besides a few characters names and even then I get their names wrong…
