Did I mess up buying a Thousand Trails membership? 😬 (need advice)

Okay so… I might have jumped the gun here and I’m hoping someone who’s been through this can help me out before I fully spiral šŸ™ƒ

I bought a Thousand Trails yearly membership thinking it would be my ā€œbridge planā€ for a few months while I get onto my property. In my head, this was going to be simple: do the 14 days on / 7 days off thing, rotate between a couple campgrounds, save money, survive life. Boom. Responsible adult moment.

Except… now that I actually have the membership, I can’t seem to book anything?? Like at all. Every time I try to make reservations it’s either unavailable or just doesn’t work.

Also… what’s up with the tent camping situation? Their website made it sound like tent camping was an option, but when I look at actual campgrounds, it’s basically all RV-only or super limited. So now I’m sitting here like… did I just buy into something I can’t even use??

And to make it extra fun, some places are dog-restricted, which I didn’t fully realize beforehand either 🫠

My next step is to start calling locations directly, but before I go full detective mode, I wanted to ask:

Has anyone else had issues booking with Thousand Trails?

Is the 14 on / 7 off system actually realistic in practice?

Are there ANY locations that consistently allow tent camping in the California region?

Am I missing something obvious… or did I just learn an expensive lesson?

I’m not trying to bash them, I just genuinely need to figure out if I can make this work or if I need to pivot fast.

Any advice, tips, or ā€œyeah… been thereā€ stories would be super appreciated šŸ™
