Post Invisalign, Root Canal or Extraction?
Hi all!
I am after a bit of advice if possible! I finished my 18 month Invisalign treatment in May 2025 - prior to this I had a routine X-Ray before treatment began and had one filling as a result (upper right second molar).
After some intermittent toothache, I had been for a check up and my dentist stated that the tooth in which I had a filling prior to my Invisalign now needs a root filling as the “nerve is exposed”. He stated that a root filling would be the favourable option as I am “only young” (27YO) and it is always best to save the tooth when possible - of course extraction is the second option.
I am conflicted on what is the best option. I am concerned about the maintenance of my Invisalign and how extraction VS root canal would affect my retainer fitting, how the retainer would impact healing of extraction/root canal etc. I would also ideally not like to spend £800+ on (after some research) a procedure that perhaps may not even be effective and will result in an extraction anyways!?
Of course I am NAD so looking for some friendly advice on what you would do in my situation please 😀 my dentist told me he would be guided by me, but I feel as though there is an unconscious pressure for me to go ahead with the root filling!
TIA!
