Which is better for pregnancy Medical Aid vs Hospital Plan?

My husband and I are trying to plan for starting a family next year (2027). We’re looking at gap cover options and medical aid/hospital plan options.

It’s all very overwhelming which is the best or close to the best option.

We’re currently on the hospital plan, Discovery Costal Core, and looking at Kingsbury as our hospital of choice.

However all the forums and experience I’ve heard has been based off medical aid plans live KeyCore, Smart Savers etc etc. I also can’t see any OBGYN covered in our network and not sure if I will see who’s covered until I activate the maternity benefits…

The gap cover options we’re looking at seem only cover from 3rd trimester onwards.

TBH it’s all overwhelming and very confusing with what is actually covered. I don’t know how people do this and don’t get badly shafted 😅

Any advice on the best way forward for our planning? We’re happy with the waiting periods etc if we need to change but looking for peoples experience with pregnancy benefits with medical aid or hospital plans and gap cover.

Thanks in advance!
