Is a radiator flush worth it?
I have an 08 Civic that has been through some stuff, so now I want to treat her right.
I noticed some corrosion/brown buildup in the coolant fill neck, and I found that some places offer flushes using a machine that uses pressure. It connects to two hoses from the radiator and runs for about an hour, then they drain it and put in new coolant.
Is that actually effective, or should I just opt for a chemical flush that I do myself at home?
I’m specifically concerned about the radiator because a few months ago this car had a blown engine and it had to be replaced, along with the radiator (both used). The failure was caused by contamination in the cooling system due to improper fluid use.
It wasn’t me who did all that it’s a family car, and now I’m the one using it for school and handling maintenance.
Since the radiator isn’t new, I’m not sure how clean it is internally or how it was treated by the previous owner. Same with the engine.
The car has been running great for the past few months with no overheating or issues, so this is purely preventative.
