How hard is it to maintain a 3.9-4.0 GPA from the very start of uni

if you get in on 100% scholarship how hard can it be for a person like that to maintain his GPA, since if you dont you'll have to pay the proper fee and that is what scares me, Is uni really hard and are GPAs like these not common?
