I struggle with the hijab and fear I might be wearing it for the wrong reasons
Assalamu alaikum, as the title says I'm struggling a lot with the hijab. I started wearing it rather late when I was 26 years old. I always wanted to wear the hijab but never had the courage to do so although I was already dressing modestly. Then I was invited to do Umrah in 2023 and after praying Maghrib in one of my last days in Mekkah, I had a sudden urge and strong desire to start wearing it officially. I still remember how light I felt in that moment. However ever since then I never felt that feeling again.
It's been 3 years now and I've been wearing it ever since but especially in the past few months I've been thinking of taking it off multiple times and it has negatively impacted my mental health a lot. And whats worse is that I started to question my own intentions and I fear I might be a hypocrite because I might wear it for the wrong reasons at this point (for example fear of what others might say or think, fear of only wanting to wear it to appeal "more" religious). I'm also not wearing it correctly since my neck is showing a bit and I like to wear earrings, which is something I loved to do before wearing the hijab as well. This is why some people have told me to take it off if I don't wear it properly.
I also stopped certain hobbies because it would feel inappropriate with the hijab, I feel like I have to constantly conceal my true character and act like someone I'm not. I know the real cause is that I struggle with my deen as well but that's also why I feel like I don't deserve to wear the hijab. I have no one I could talk to about this because I'm embarrassed. And although my parents are very supportive, since they never forced me to wear it and would also still support me if I take it off, I would still feel like I'm disappointing them.
I've been asking myself a lot if I'm a munafiq because my heart is not 100% in it and because I don't wear it properly but I've also asked myself if I only want to take it off because I don't feel "pretty" enough with it. As you can probably tell I'm doubting myself a lot and I'm conflicted in what I should do.
I've been thinking of taking it off for a while and getting back to it when I feel ready again but I fear thats simply shaytans trap and that I might fail this obvious test.
I'm really thankful for any advice regarding this matter, especially from anyone who might have gone through something similar.
