How to get better at dating...?

I'm curious if anyone has read any specific books or done anything to make themselves better at dating...? I seem to really not sit well with people when I first meet them! Or, it has happened so consistently that I begin to wonder- what sort of impression do I give people? I will say, I do laugh often and joke around a lot which I totally understand can be misinterpreted but I try to realign myself as quickly as possible.

But several times I've had conversations where I'm asking how their day was and get back "fine" and then move on to ask if they have hobbies to which they respond as quickly as possible, etc. I do admit, I ask a lot of questions. I have a lot of interest in other people but I try to also slip in my own ideas and thoughts to round out what I'm saying.

I try to leave each "failed" conversation and do some introspection. It's so common that I get to do quite a bit of introspection! haha but I will say, I have lots of fulfilling and wonderful friendships. So while I wonder "what is wrong with me?" in terms of how I'm dating women, I do love my friends so much and think so highly of them that I think- I can't be all bad! Because they do check in on me, seek me out to hang out etc- just as I do with them. I feel very lucky in every other area of my life.

I've been posting here quite a bit! And I did mention I understand I'm not very conventionally attractive- but I don't think I'm burning anyone's eyes! haha, so I sincerely hope that isn't the big reason.

Anyway, I'm curious if other people get this sort of reaction over and over? If they've had any success at maybe "selling" themselves a little better? Because sometimes I've had close friends let me know that they absolutely hated me when they first met me haha but one person told me that they saw me as "the sunshine of their day" when they'd first hated me haha so I hope it's just that I come across wrong. I wouldn't want to sell myself to entrap someone to be with me xD but rather, let them know I'm being authentic?? I'm not sure.

Also any book recommendations or even a dating coach! haha, I'm open to all of it. I do therapy, but I try more often to reflect on how I can come to terms with being single and how to be a better person in my every day life etc.

Thanks for tolerating my semi frequent posts here! :)
