70mm (non-IMAX) has a reversed aspect ratio motif from every other version (sort of)
Interesting thing I noticed at a regular 70mm (not IMAX 70mm) screening today is that the earth scenes filled more of the screen than the space scenes did — essentially the opposite of how the film is usually presented in every other format where the space scenes fill more of the screen.
I’ve seen people talk about how the digital screenings looked on Scope (widescreen) screens where there’s black bars on the sides of the space scenes and full black borders around the earth scenes.
They do it a little differently in 70mm where earth scenes were still Scope 2.39:1 but fill the entire Scope screen and then the space scenes were just pillarboxed to 2.00:1.
As opposed to the space scenes taking up more screen and the earth scenes cropping, the earth scenes filled the screen and the space scenes cropped in on the sides.
Thats all I have to say, hadn’t seen anyone else talk about it and I thought it was interesting.
