21F / Chronic Headaches, Fainting, and Tinnitus—Conflicting Diagnoses (POTS vs. Migraine vs. Dysautonomia). Looking for patterns.
I am a 20-year-old female (turning 21 soon) of European descent. I’m not looking for official medical advice, but I am hoping someone might recognize a pattern in my symptoms that I haven't considered yet so I can bring it to my doctor.
Medical History:
Ages 9–11: Started with chronic headaches lasting a day, then weeks. At age 11, I had a constant, dull aching headache at the base of my skull/neck that lasted for four months straight.
Ages 15–18: The headaches randomly let up, but I began experiencing tinnitus (ringing in the ears).
Age 18: Headaches ramped up again, now accompanied by dizziness and intense ear ringing.
Age 19: I passed out for the first time. Between ages 19 and 20, I fainted 12 times.
Current Status: I haven't fainted in about a year because I’m on medication to regulate my heart rate (my episodes usually involve a heart rate spike followed by a sharp drop).
Current Symptoms:
Even though the fainting is controlled, my dizzy spells have increased significantly.
The Cycle: I get extremely dizzy with intense ringing in my ears.
The Aftermath: About an hour after the dizziness stops, I get a severe headache and become very nauseous. The ear ringing often continues for several hours after the dizziness fades.
The Specialist Merry-Go-Round:
I’ve seen every doctor imaginable—neurologists, cardiologists, ENTs, and naturopaths. I have been given three different "answers," but each doctor claims the others are wrong:
Diagnosis A: POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome)
Diagnosis B: Dysautonomia
Diagnosis C: Atypical Migraines
I feel stuck because no one can agree on a treatment plan, and the symptoms are starting to take over again. Has anyone experienced this specific "Dizziness -> Ringing -> Migraine/Nausea" cycle? Are there specific tests or sub-conditions (like Vestibular Migraines or CSF leaks) I should be asking about?
