Is this game dead, and do y'all think it'll revive with the upcoming rework?

Hey, I'm a newish player to this game, and I think its a ton of fun, but kinda wish there were more players who played it. Are there any thoughts on the game as of late, hopes for its future, or just in general any people who still want some kind of communit surrounding it? Trying to find new people to play with, but most people either give up on it due to the player count or have been in the game significantly longer than me and already have all their connections set, so Im just wondering, what're your thoughts on the state of the game/communnity?
