Marvel Heroes Omega was the best game I've ever played...
Hey there, superheroes, villains, anti-heroes, and sidekicks.
Just wanna share something sentimental about this game.
It was in early 2015 when I first stumbled across this game. I remember the first hero that I unlocked with the Random Hero Unlock token was Black Panther. And from there, I started my F2P journey (because I was a broke 3rd-year college student with no income). This game got me through a tough breakup, my dog dying, and some other bad stuff that happened throughout this time period.
MHO was an escape from the stresses of life, and I loved the things that I could do on the daily. There was no pressure to be the top player, there was no pressure to do high level content. There was just "being" a superhero or villain, and living out life like them.
My progress was fairly slow. On my second and third Random Hero Unlocks, I got Juggernaut and Ghost Rider, respectively. I got them both to 60, prestiged to blue, and was farming cosmic Kurse. Farming GoK helped me sustain my toons. At one point, I traded a GoK for an SW and Angela because someone was just desperate to get a GoK.
This screenshot shows the last few days I logged into the game before I got too busy. When I heard that the game shut down, my heart broke. I never got a chance to say goodbye to my friends (and those who I added on Steam back then never came back online).
MHO was the game that I logged in to have fun, talk to friends, and just enjoy the content. As someone who loved Marvel and DC since childhood, I couldn't have asked for anything more from this game. Before the game closed, I tallied up to 300+ hours on the game. Not a lot by today's standards, but it proved just how much I loved the game.
Then by some miracle, a couple of weeks ago, I saw my Steam notification pop-up saying "Friend" is playing Marvel Heroes Omega. I was surprised. I was shocked. Out of curiosity, I headed over to my library to look for my game. I went to the Community discussion tab, and sure enough, I saw the post for private servers. The first server I saw was CoA's, and I immediately signed up and installed the game.
But I never got my hopes up. Knowing private servers, I knew something would go wrong. Maybe I couldn't log in, or maybe game errors would show up that would prevent me from playing the game. Thankfully, I was proven wrong.
I logged in for the first time in 10 years, and it was the third best thing that ever happened in my life (first being my wedding, and second being a dad for the first time). A wave of nostalgia hit me like a brick and I could've sworn I felt a tear run down my cheek.
I had 10,000G's on my account and the very first thing I did was buy Black Panter, Juggernaut, and Ghost Rider. I bought their costumes and boosts and stashes. And something was healing about it because I never got the chance to buy any of them when this game was live years ago). And now, it feels like i'm reliving 2016 all over again.
