Klebsiella pneumoniae UTI - PCR test questions
Hi everyone,
I am 35 F and have been dealing with a "UTI" since November of last year. The story is a little complicated and also involves a vaginal infection (aerobic vaginitis) but the short story is:
I've been having symptoms of a UTI since November but every single urine culture has come back negative but with high amounts of blood present. I was at my wits end in March and decided to do a PCR test - it came back with:
E Coli - High load
E Faecalis - Medium load
Klebsiella pneumoniae - Medium load
I was prescribed Fosfomycin and did 3 doses, 72 hours apart each. During the treatment my symptoms flared badly but by the end some of my worst symptoms were gone. I no longer have burning in the urethra which was by far the worst pain. All that was left over was some pressure in the bladder and a sense of irritation. I decided to do another PCR test just to check and it came back this past week with:
E Faecalis - Medium load
Klebsiella pneumoniae - High load
I'm glad that the E Coli is gone but obviously want to get rid of these two left.
I went in to see a urologist who basically told me that these PCR tests are wrong (she actually said they are BS) and that if I have bladder pain that it probably indicates something else. She swears I don't have a UTI because the dipstick test at her office came back negative. She also said that she recommends doing bladder instillations which I think is an insane thing to suggest since my bladder pain is not bad at all - it literally just feels like a low level UTI.
Has anyone had experience with Klebsiella pneumoniae UTI? Was it found on culture or PCR?
Also, has anyone ever dealt with a doctor who doesn't believe in PCR test?
Thanks so much!
