Custom plate with common name causing headaches

Here’s an odd one that I would love some collective thought on. I live in New York and have a custom motorcycle plate with my first name, which is a very common man’s first name. I was happy when it was available and thought it would be a fun thing to have. However, it has turned into a major headache. First, I started to get toll bills for somebody in Florida that had a plate with the same name. It appears (from the pictures they sent me with the bills) to be a novelty plate like someone would put on a bicycle, but it says New York and has the same name. Now, I just got a speeding ticket from New York City for what is clearly another novelty plate with the the name. I think I need to get rid of this dumb thing. Any ideas for how to prevent this sort of nonsense?

I sent Florida a long letter, and the toll bills seem to have stopped. But for the New York speeding ticket I had to initiate a dispute, which may require me to go to a hearing. This feels quite ridiculous.
