Failing a course and still getting into specialization?

Hi, I am a first-year Science student at UBC and I’m a bit worried about CHEM 123. I’m not really sure if I’ll be able to pass the course, but I really want to go into Biology for second year. I was wondering if it’s still possible to get into a Bio specialization if you fail CHEM 123 (assuming you plan to retake it later)? Has anyone been in a similar situation or know how strict this requirement is? Thanks.
