Wanting to relocate but don’t know if or when it will happen

I don’t know if this is the right place for this question, but has anyone been in a situation where you’re wanting to relocate, have no idea how long it will take, and don’t know what to do in the meantime?

I’m staying in a flexible living situation with the hopes of relocating to another city. Because of the current job market, I have no idea if or when that will actually happen. If anyone’s been in a similar situation, did you stay in the flexible situation indefinitely, or eventually get set up in an apartment in your current city? Did you keep applying to the other city after that? Just wondering if anyone has experience in a similar situation.
