Dodgy or not?
Perhaps I should have sought advice long ago.
A year ago I moved here. I live with my landlord and her teenage son. His girlfriend used to live here too.
I paid $700 in "moving in costs" prior to being here — 2 weeks rent plus extra. No bond or whatever. On arriving here, I thought the 2 weeks were in advance. She said that it wasn't, and that if I chose to move out, it covered the last two weeks which wouldn't need to be paid. I thought it sketchy but oh well.
Then the >!weed!< smell lol. The two teens >!smoked on the dailly!< in the garage. I'm always sad when youth or anyone >!is overpowered by any substance!< — but in terms of calling the police or something — mate, I did not care lol. But (directly expressed by the teenagers, and her own hesitance) the landlord thought I might. I didn't bring it up until months later, when I bought incense and asked if it was alright to burn it — she said it wasn't because of her asthma — I said, oh, it's the only thing that covers the smell. And she had the cheek to guiltily ask, "What smell?" looool. >!Of an old abusive relationship, one thing my ex would do is blow weed up my nose and grape me in my sleep. That was exceedingly tame in comparison to other things, yet, through quirk and therapy I am no longer easily triggered by the smell of weed. When I first moved in, on smelling it, sometimes adrenaline was so powerful that I wouldn't sleep for two days. Aaanyway enough sob.!<
Then the >!domestic abuse & grape. !<Between the teenagers. Long story short, it ended at the end of last year. Law/police/interventions/therapies involved. >!The landlord really disgusted me in her enabling of her kid's (18) behaviour.!< The girl (17) is with family now. >!The things done to her were bloody ghastly. !<Kid is still in therapy. It took a while, as these things do, but the two have legitimately ended it. >!I feel yucky to say, but the mum/landlord is still very toxic.!<
!I have 5yrs experience in DA/SA relationship. Grew up witnessing one. 6yrs since leaving have been in therapies. !<I'll admit it was hard concerning PTSD. I am in university, and my studies absolutely flunked during the two months where at the house all came to a head. Throughout everything, then and now, I do what I can to be as objective, trauma-informed, and safety-concerned as possible — for each person. >!It's hard to do it for the mum, who as an adult with a fully developed brain, and a large capacity for agency, should be better. !<
I don't even know what I'm asking for. Help? Advice? On what is wrong with this situation? Should I be doing things? What should be going on with me as a tenant in this situation?
