Sap hound

We adopted a 10-year-old one-eyed male last summer and he’s been a great addition to our family. However, his favorite pastime is burrowing under our cypress trees in the red clay. He sits in these burrows all day and then comes in caked in clay and sap. Every day. He bites when his feet are touched, so no matter how much I ask the kids and my wife not to let him track in clay and sap when they bring him in, our carpets are just destroyed.

I can work on desensitizing him about his feet. I’m unsure what to do about the rest, other than keeping him in and walking him for exercise. We have an acre fenced in, though, and this seems crazy. The quote to cut down the trees was $7000, so that’s also out.

Looking for creative solutions! Thanks!
