Origin on certificates FYI
this is post is an FYI for all of you out there who rely on certificates to tell you if something is real or not. We had a discussion this past weekend on proving source origin on where a particular bit of jade was mined e.g Myanmar vs Guatemala. I have and others have noticed over time that a lot of lab certificates coming out of Asia particularly, list Myanmar as the origin of the items on the lab cert.
When I asked my own local lab which is one of of the most respected in my country to list origin they said no. When I asked why, they stated that FTIR and the other tests they do is not enough to prove origin and therefore they refused to put their names on such claims. its what pushed me to dig deeper into this topic the past week.
The topic made it back to a core group of Jade dealers I hang out with and eventually Jordan from JOTT chimed in with this very insightful video she did with a member of the GIA a few months back.

So as of right now, the ONLY lab in the world with the right tool to confirm Jadeite Jades origin is Myanmar is the GIA and even that is a work in progress as they build out their data set to generate accurate results.
So if you see any other lab certificate stating Myanmar as the origin, they are talking out their bums.
be careful people , always buy the seller !!!!!
