Changing router a good idea ?

Is it worth changing gateway ? I recently moved places went from Cox to att fiber but all i hear is bad stuff about their gateway i usually watch tv through fire tv and got blocked from watching it and theres no way to fix it the firewall is always enable or the threat block system
