How do I set my video recording settings to the very lowest amount of lag?

Every time I try to record a game made past like 2007 obs has the lowest fps ever. Games run perfectly fine but the recording itself is unusable because of the lag. I can't find any useful information on YouTube that isn't years old or its all help for streaming not recording for videos. I dont have the most powerful laptop in the world but it can play most games pretty ok. its has no Nvidia parts or whatever just a regular Intel core 7 laptop. Help would be very much appreciated. thank you.
