How do you like to read/write Regency Era Novels?

I'm writing a novel set in the regency period. It is very intentionally inspired by Austen. With that said, do modern readers take stories like these and prefer the language to accurately match the writing style of the period? Do others still enjoy reading modern prose in their historical fiction? For my draft so far, I'm kind of striking a balance because I'm not going to have my character use modern slang. Still, I'm not sure if my prose is still too modern or if that's even an issue.
