Camacho Ecuador Toro - 87

Medium-full bodied

Pre-light draw: barnyard hay

First third: roasted nuts, leather, cedar, black pepper spice

Second third: caramel, roasted nuts, leather, cocoa, earth

Final third: earth, leather

Overall: This toro sized cigar features an Ecuadorian habano wrapper, Brazilian binder, and filler from Honduras and Dominican Republic. The wrapper is smooth, oily, and has some visible tooth upon close inspection. Upon light up, it opens to notes of roasted nuts, leather, and creamy cedar. There is a hint of pepper spice on the tongue as well.

In the second third, the pepper spice falls off, replaced by a semi-sweet caramel spice. After a relight, due to very windy conditions, the caramel sweetness becomes very dominating. The overall sharpness of the profile dulls into a much smoother and overall sweeter one. Notes of cocoa are also present, as well as earthiness.

The final third shifts away from the sweetness and back into a bolder profile dominated by earth and leather. Towards the final 2 inches, I had to out the cigar down, as a strong pepper note overrode the entire experience. It was no longer enjoyable, but harsh and unpleasant.

Overall, I won’t be smoking this one again. The construction was okay, holding up decently to strong winds. It ended a few touch up’s and a relight. The sweetness that I was hoping for only lasted for a short while, otherwise the overall profile did not click with me. The ending was atrocious, coming from a fan of full bodied smokes.
