Resident Evil 2 (1998) Cannon order question

Hey, so recently the first three Resident Evil games were released on Steam, and because of that I thought I’d do a Resident Evil marathon since I’ve never played any of the older titles.

I’ve played Resident Evil 2 Remake many times—Leon A / Claire B as well as Claire A / Leon B. I know that in the remake, even though there aren’t huge differences, the canonical order is considered Leon A / Claire B. However, I’ve heard that in the original Resident Evil 2 the differences between Leon A / Claire B and Claire A / Leon B are much bigger. I’ve also heard that the canonical order in the original is Claire A / Leon B.

So I’m wondering, how does that line up with the remake?

My question is, if I want to experience a version of the story that’s as close as possible to what’s shown in the remake, should I play Leon A / Claire B, or the other way around? I’d like the events to match the remake as much as possible.

For example, the only difference I know (from a random spoiler) is that >!Ada “dies”!< differently depending on the scenario—>!either falling like in the remake, or being killed by Mr. X.!< Which scenario should I play if I want >!Ada’s fate!< to match the remake?

I know the remake mixes elements from both A and B scenarios, but I assume it still leans more toward one of them.

Also, I’d really appreciate it if you could avoid spoilers about other differences, or at least add a warning like I did with >!Ada!<. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
