My type me questionnaire

Type Me

Hello! I am trying to type myself in PY and I'm interested in reading others opinions. Thanks in advance!

LOGIC:

Do you find that truth and understanding of systems in life are an important aspect that should be highly valued?

They are important for at least three reasons: 1. The more you understand, the better you can orient yourself in life, 2. It is interesting, 3. On a large scale, they are the basis of progress

How do you usually go about learning and forming an understanding of a concept?

My first approach is researching on the internet, to get a general idea of the topic; then, I usually resort to books (I am a bit old fashioned in this regard, but I still find them the most useful source for me to learn) and, if applicable, practice (it’s really difficult to truly understand without practice).

How easily do you find yourself changing opinions or viewpoints? What sorts of things can influence your views the most/least?

I am stubborn, but I also think that I am open to changing opinions when I realize, either independently or thanks to someone else, that they’re wrong: truth is more important than being right. On some occasions, I may feel shame if I exposed myself too much and end up saying something stupid, for example, but that principle still stands. When it comes to “facts”, I am mostly influenced by scientific studies, but for more abstract topics, for example which characteristics a successful person must have, the social aspect prevails.

Are you more likely to assume that you’re right or wrong about an issue? Is it important for you to always be right? How easy is it for you to admit it when you’re wrong?

I guess I have already answered above ahah, should have read all the questions first.

How do you react when someone disagrees with you during a logical debate? How do you go about defending your beliefs, if at all? Do these types of situations make you doubt your views easily?

I assume that here logic is to be intended in the Psychosphy sense. How I react depends on many factors: the closeness to the person (e.g. close friend, new friend, bf, parent, acquaintance), their role (e.g. colleague, friend, boss, stranger, relative), how important is the topic to me, my mood and/or how tired I am. So, it may go from aggressiveness to the opposite; the same is applicable to how I defend my beliefs. My views are shaken in these situations if, as written previously, I am proven wrong (later I may think that “I am an idiot”), but how easily depends on how confident I am on the topic. Besides, if either I don’t fully trust what the other person is saying or I want to show that I am right, I do a quick google search on the spot. In general, I tend to cite my sources, but not always with confidence (for example, A: “This recipe contains only ingredient X”, Me: “Actually, it also contains a small percentage of ingredient Y. I heard it in this program, but I could remember incorrectly”, then I proceed to check on Google to confirm (or not) my statement)

How do you feel about debating logical chains and evidence? (Can discussions and debates help you sort your thoughts out, or are you more likely to see them as unnecessary? Do you find debates more stressful or fun?)

I don’t know exactly about debates, but talking out loud (with someone else or alone) or writing things down helps me clear my thoughts. I don’t mind debates until they lead somewhere and they don’t create permanent conflict

Do you feel the need to explain your own logical understanding to others? Do you feel the need to have others explain their understandings to you?

YES, I do it automatically, because the other person can understand where my conclusions are coming from and, possibly, see where my chain of thoughts went wrong. On the other hand, I don’t feel the need to have others explain their understandings to me, if I am curious about it or I don’t have a clear vision I ask

VOLITION:

Do you consider yourself to be a naturally motivated person? What helps motivate you? Do you need others to motivate you and/or provide incentives for you to work?

In general, I think I am naturally motivated, I enjoy doing activities, I get excited by the idea of starting something new and reaching a goal, but I have my “low” moments too (the longest lasted for years). Surely, one of my main motives is learning: it is my fuel in life; for example, when I am feeling down, what comforts me is the awareness that there are still many things to learn and skills to acquire. I’m also highly motivated the vision of the result (and its consequences) and, to a certain degree, praise (or by the conviction that I will be praised if I’ll do X thing). Besides, also stories (e.g. novels and real-life experiences, either of famous people or those in my circle) inspire me to act

Are you someone who has a clear sense of direction and purpose? Is this something that matters to you? What do you gain a sense of meaning from?

No. Just to make an example, I am pursuing two careers, and both are not related to my bachelor; I prefer to leave options open. In general, I often feel fragmented because I have interests in many different fields; it bothers me because sometimes I think it would be easier if I had only one strong passion to pursue with all my heart and energies. The only constant, and what I gain a sense of meaning from, I’d say, is improving as a person

How is your relationship with goals? Do you often share them with others (or help others with their goals)? Are you self-assured in what you set out to do, or are you more indecisive and/or easily persuaded by what others around you want?

I love setting goals and working towards them; however, I am very secretive about them; usually, I reveal my cards only after everything is settled or, even, complete. I don’t want others to interfere or make comments about my decisions: in the past, it only caused problems to me (one reason is: when I was younger, I chose some activities or schools based on what people close to me considered as valuable; however, it was not what I wanted and I felt deeply unhappy. At the same time, I was basically forced to stop others that, instead, I loved. I am an adult now and I act differently, but the scar remains). If I need your opinion, I will ask for it. Rather, I process them in my diary and by making lists. On the other hand, I am glad if others open about their goals or ask me for help, I see it as a sign of trust.

Are you bothered by failures and setbacks? How do you deal with them when they come up?

Yes, but I overcome them taking them as a lesson to learn from, trying to see the positive side of it all.

Are you someone who easily competes for things you truly desire?

I don’t think that “compete” is the right term for my view. I am more focused on doing my things well, I usually don’t see life as a constant competition (unless it’s a board/video game, then I’m highly competitive lol); if I compete it’s for a challenge/to prove myself (for example, in elementary school I always competed with my best friends to see who could finish exercises/homework faster, sometimes ending up being scolded by the teacher because I ended before listening to the instructions and so did everything wrong lol). My ideal would be an environment where everyone can thrive.

How do you tend to act when you are part of a team? Are you more of a leader or a follower (or neither)? Do you have an easy time working cooperatively with others?

I like working in a team, for many reasons (NOT ordered by importance): 1. The social aspect; 2. One cannot do everything alone/better results can be reached, and faster, in a team; 3. You can learn something from others. I prefer if there’s no hierarchy (so no leader and follower dichotomy) or, if there is, it is not strict and everyone is free to give their input. Of course, there may be frictions, and in my experience they where mostly due by not enough focus by some members, but nothing that cannot be solved (always referring to my experiences, there may be more delicate cases).

Do you consider yourself to be someone with a firm sense of identity? How do you feel when other people assert their ideas about who you are?

No, it’s always been a work in progress. I am curios about what others think about me though, also because it can be useful, and if doesn’t match with my idea I asks questions like “Why you think that?” and wonder how it’s possible that there’s such a mismatch between mine and their perception, it’s funny in a way (for example, I saw myself as introverted by I almost always get typed as extraverted in socionics)

PHYSICS:

How important are factors such as clothing, hygiene, and appearance to your everyday life? Do you feel confident in your body and tastes? Are you often swayed by trends and the opinions of others in terms of fashion and aesthetics?

Important but not my top priority, even though I enjoy clothes and, for example, watching reels and shorts related to fashion (and makeup even if I don’t use it myself, I am a disaster in applying it). I am confident in my tastes, and I wear what I like (for example, I may dress elegantly to go for a walk or a picnic in the park) and I am generally not influenced by others in this regard

How do you handle your senses being disturbed? Are you sensitive to problems like discomfort, sickness, and pain? (Or are you unaware/able to push past them/etc.)

Noises are exhausting, I often use earplugs or noise cancelling headphones especially for sleeping. Other senses don’t bother me that much, except that I highly prefer darkness at night to sleep. Also, if I am physically close to someone with a flue or similar, I get anxious and I desire to leave.

I am sensitive to those problems but not in an obsessive way; I’d say that if it interferes with goals, I manage it, if it’s tolerable, I ignore it, if it becomes too much, I react (e.g. medical help, rest, …)

How is your relationship with physical activity? Are you someone who naturally desires a more comfortable and inert lifestyle, or do you have a hard time staying still?

I am not extremely active, also because my job is sedentary and I spend most of the time there (and tbh that’s not the only cause, if it weren’t work it would be studying), and comfort is important to me, but I hate inertia.  I enjoy walks and juggling, and in social situations I get restless if there’s not something to do after some time (like only talks).

Do you find external encouragement and incentives for taking care of your body useful?

Honestly, I don’t care too much about it.

Do you enjoy pushing yourself to try new foods, activities, or styles? How picky are you regarding these things, and what helps you decide what you want to explore?

Yes, and it connects to the love of learning I mentioned above, especially when it comes to food; for example, I am pescetarian, but honestly if I visited a foreign country, I would taste their dishes even if they had meat, out of curiosity. I’m only picky after I am certain I don’t like something. It’s mostly true for activities too, but there are ones I would never try, either because too extreme for my likings (e.g. bungee jumping), or too boring (e.g. spa). I’m not too exploratory regarding styles, if referred to clothing, because it’s more “outward” and I have a specific one that I prefer, even if it may change from time to time.

How is your relationship with your physical environment? Is being organized something that matters to you and/or comes naturally?

I prefer my environment to be beautiful (who doesn’t?); living in an area with no nature and/or industrial area would be miserable. I also prefer moderate silence (no extreme traffic, no car horns beeping, no loud music, etc.) and organization. However, the latter doesn’t come that naturally, because usually I accumulate some mess and then tidy up when it’s too much; nothing extreme, but for example right now I have books everywhere and clothes on chairs.

Are you usually attuned to your surroundings?

More or less. I am often so immersed in my own thoughts that I don’t notice anything, other times I focus on small details while missing the big picture. In new close spaces, one of my first thoughts is “If there was an emergency, what would be the safest way to get out?”, so I am more aware there. In nature, I feel immersed in my surroundings and part of it, I enjoy that feeling.

How do you feel when another person enters your space and tries to help you with it? (e.g. by cleaning)

Unless you have my permission, don’t touch my stuffs. If you want to clean only superficially (like decluttering) than it’s fine

How do you handle your finances and possessions? Is this an area of ease in your life, or do you find yourself becoming overly reckless or stingy? Do you consider yourself to be a materialistic person?

I lean more on the stingy side, and I am interested in personal finance, investment and the like. However, I am not obsessed about it. If I must spend (relatively, I am not that rich) large amounts of money I get anxious on the spot but then realize it’s necessary or that there are no options and I get over it. I value physical possessions either for stability or personal interest (collections, books, …) but I’d say I am average in materialism.

How do you react to criticism or advice regarding how you handle any of the above things?

I think I lean on the negative side if it’s unrequested

EMOTIONS:

Does self-expression come naturally to you? What emotions do you find easier or harder to express? What goals do you have when dealing with your levels of emotional expression, if any?

I am spontaneous and expressive, but my emotions aren’t calculated usually, so if I must deliberately express one, all of them are difficult (I guess unless it was an artistic performance, where I trained for it). I try to deal with my levels of emotional expression for, let’s say, dignity, and possibly reduce conflicts; for example, I get angry easily when I am losing in games, but I don’t want to offend other people, so I am trying to improve on this aspect.

Are you someone who is in touch with their inner emotional world? Are you good at understanding how you feel about something and why?

I feel many emotions, I have a rich emotional life, but understanding their origin is not always easy or something that I do constantly, unless it’s useful to feel better (usually distraction is more efficient). When I was younger, I also recurred to “scientific methods”: in elementary school, there were two boys that I liked, and I couldn’t decide who I liked more, and we had just learned that heart beats faster when you are in love; so I measured the number of heartbeats in one minute, firstly while thinking about boy 1 and then boy 2.

Do you find others’ insight into how you are/should be feeling beneficial?

Honestly, it never happened so I can’t tell, but in general I think no one should tell someone else what to feel, it’s too subjective. I would accept something like “If I were you, I would feel this and that because …, but you have the right to feel like this”

How good are you at balancing your focus between your own emotions and the emotions of others? Are you more naturally attuned to others’ feelings and reactions, or to your own?

If there is negativity around me, I am influenced by it and need some alone time or time to reflect to return to a more positive mood. I am aware of both my own emotions and those of others, but I tend to process others’ reactions by reflecting on myself, and I don’t usually act on them unless it’s someone very close to me

How easily caught up on specific feelings do you become? Do you value being able to detach yourself from your emotions? (And is this something you’re good at?)

I tend to get easily caught up in anxiety, which is one of my main obstacles, and sometimes in irritation as well. Because of this, I value being able to detach from my emotions so they don’t dictate my actions, and because it would make certain things easier for me. However, I wouldn’t say I’m very good at doing that. At the same time, I don’t see emotions as something negative that should be suppressed or eliminated—they still have their place

How do you normally react when someone shares their emotions with you? Do you enjoy handling situations like these?

I’m glad when someone chooses to open up to me, especially if I feel I can help. I’m more comfortable when they either want a practical solution or clearly need support, because I know how to respond in those cases. If the situation is more emotionally complex or unclear, I can feel a bit overwhelmed or unsure how to handle it, so it may feel somewhat heavy for me rather than something I naturally enjoy

When others are speaking on topics regarding emotion, are you more inclined to express, engage, or pull away? How comfortable are you with conversations focused on emotional vulnerability?

It depends on the topic and context, processing them by speaking can be useful and/or liberating, so I listen and eventually engage; I pull away if it’s something negative or that I can’t handle. I’m comfortable with emotional vulnerability when it feels genuine and meaningful, but I prefer conversations that also have some structure or depth rather than being purely emotionally driven
